If only he was smart enough perhaps, to just try and assume her identity. Then claim he hadn't been shifted. Might be a bit difficult, but maybe easier than to explain why she ran off to Mexico.

If they fail to do so, the idol disappears to find a new owner, leaving them stuck as each other forever!
